I am very pleased to announce that Howard Lyman has offered to respond to a few questions from readers about his book, Mad Cowboy! This is a very exciting chance to get answers straight from the source, and to find out more about the author of the book that we've enjoyed this month. Please submit a question via the comments section by 9 am tomorrow morning, and I will pick the top five to send to Howard to answer. I look forward to seeing your questions!

My name is Susan Bran and I am an American living in Guatemala. I have seen first hand the destuction of the forests here for cattle. We live on top of a mountain close to a volcano, and every time we drive down we see trees burning to make more land for grazing cows. However, if I try to talk to the people here and in the States about the tragedy of destroying natural forests for one season of food for cows, they look at me like I'm crazy. How do I get the importance of this across to them?
ReplyDeleteAs someone who certainly had connections with other factory farmers, have you been able to convince any of your former colleagues to go vegan?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It's been 12 years since Mad Cowboy was first published. How do you think the meat industry, and conversely the public consciousness around the hazards of eating meat, has changed in that time? What shifts do you foresee happening in the future?
ReplyDeleteDo you know where one might find great Vegan NOOK covers? Thx. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite vegan recipe?
ReplyDeleteHello Mr. Lyman! I really enjoyed your book, and I want to thank you for taking your time to answer some questions! I attended the Lyman vs. Niman debate this past May where you talked a little about your lobbying efforts in Washington, D.C. What are you currently working on?
ReplyDeleteIn your book, you comment on the loss of family farms to factory farms. What role do you see factory farms having in the current economic downturn? What possibilities do you see for American families who were and are both directly and indirectly connected to the farming industry? What plant-based suggestions would you give to people struggling to make ends meet? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have also be raised around cattle and farming in my life and I feel there is a job being do that is their lively hood. For families like your who is generational farmers what do you suggest they do to make a change in the meat industry and how would they go about that with out hurting their future in farming or cattle ranching?
